Alta Mae Rieck (Mae), 93, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2014. She lived in Casper, Wyoming for over 46 years. Mae was born in Newman Grove, Nebraska, on February 7, 1921, to Helen and John Schwager, the eldest of five children. She graduated from Newman Grove High School with teacher training and taught in a one-room county schoolhouse. The Red School House where she first taught is in a museum in Nebraska. While teaching in Nebraska, she met her husband, Gerald Rieck (Gerry), and they were later married in California. They were married 65 ½ years. They moved to Casper, Wyoming with their five daughters from a farm in Nebraska in 1956. Mae received her degree and continued her career of teaching. She taught kindergarten at Mountain View Elementary for many years before retiring. Mae and Gerry moved in 1980 to a house in the country by Moran, Wyoming, before returning to Casper to be nearer to medical facilities in 1992. Mae loved to garden, was always an avid reader and researched and wrote about her family history. She traveled with her husband (and other family members) throughout the United States, the Panama Canal and took their motor home to Mexico and Alaska. She was a good cook and was known for her hospitality. Mae loved her family and enjoyed the big gatherings and holiday events. She was lucky at card games and good at crossword puzzles. She was not only blessed with her family, she had a close bond with her sisters and their families, keeping in touch with her nieces, nephews, first, second and third cousins and her friends all of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband Gerry, her parents, her brother (Howard) and her sister (Lucille Herbert). She is survived by five daughters, Helen Lamb (Robert), Dorothy Lontz, Maxine Vertz (David), Alice Muffley (Max), and Janice Moser; sisters, Muriel Bryant (James) and Shirley Sima (Frank); seven grandchildren, Sonny Lamb (Janae), Joey Lamb (Nicole), Shannon Lontz (Saskia), Tammy Hampton (Chet), Kip Sawdy, Kent Sawdy and Alisha Dopkin (Peter); and many great grandchildren.
