Memorial services for Allen D. Whinnery will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 3, 2011 at the Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery Chapel with Chaplain Leonard Robinson officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Natrona County United Veterans Council and the Wyoming Army National Guard. Allen Whinnery suddenly passed away on January 29, 2011. Alan was born to Thomas and Katherine Whinnery on August 13, 1955 in Hialeah, Florida. Allen served in the United States Marine Corp from August 5, 1974 to May 3, 1982, obtaining the rank of sergeant. He served as an MP and a heavy vehicle operator while earning his Sharpshooter Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and National Service Medal. He was deployed to Vietnam and Libia. He was honorably discharged in 1982. In 1986 Allen met his future wife, Amy Conn. They were married April of 1990. In 1992 Allen moved his family to Casper to be raised in a safe, wholesome environment. He enjoyed motorcycling, hunting and camping with his family. At the time of his death, he was employed at Wyoming Steel and Recycling Iron and Metals, Inc. He is survived by his loving wife, Amy, four children, Travis, (Una), Arizona, Gustave, California, Amber, Colorado State University, CO, Austyn, who is currently enlisted in the Army, stationed at Fort Lee, and grandson, Nathon from his first son, Travis. Also surviving are three sisters, Jenny, Judy and Vanessa and his parents, Thomas and Katherine Whinnery of Orlando, Florida and several ‘adopted' children who were friends of his children, including Paula. Allen was extremely proud of the accomplishments of his wife and children. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
