Alfred "Joe" Vollmar

Alfred Jacob (Joe) Vollmar, 82 years, passed away April 16, 2019 at Shepherd of the Valley surrounded by his family. He was born August 10, 1936 to Charles J. Vollmar and Barbara F. (Kruez) Vollmar in Toledo, Ohio. He was raised with his eight brothers and sisters. He was married to Rose Grabarczyk in 1957 and remained married until 1971. He married Constance L. Pickens September 19, 1979 and remained married for 39 years until his death. While attending an electrical trade school in the mid 50's he was part of a team of students who helped develop a radio wave oven that could cook a hot dog in 3 to 4 minutes. It doesn't sound like much now, but it was a giant leap forward to the future back then. After graduating he worked for Anderson's Construction as a home builder, then Ohio Bell as a phone board repair man and installer. He started his own construction business, A. J. Vollmar General Contracting, in Toledo, Ohio specializing in custom homes, commercial buildings and remodeling. At one time he held every license required for the construction industry; from start to finish he took great pride in the work he performed. He became part owner of Mobile Frame & Axle in Mills, Wyoming in the mid 60's. When he moved his family to Mills, Wyoming in 1973, then to Casper Wyoming in 1974, he relocated his construction business and continued business at Mobile Frame & Axle repairing drilling rigs, straightening frames and axles, and building new rig up trucks. He increased the excavation side of his business, subcontracting to Wyoming Johnson and Kloefkorn and Ballard. He contracted as a superintendent and construction manager for Wyoming National Bank and Goodstein Trust doing high end remodeling across the state of Wyoming. He later worked under-ground excavation for Pacific Power/Rocky Mountain Power and PacifCorp until his retirement. After retiring, Joe helped fill in for his son's (Terry) construction company, Bulldog Construction. He lived and loved to work; it was his chosen gift and he had a special passion, pride, and perfection in the work he did. He loved to collect many things and had a strong passion for collecting. He loved hunting, fishing, golfing and spending time with his family. He owned an outfitting business in the late 70's and early 80's where he helped fulfill the dreams of many hunters, outdoorsmen and women. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Rita Mae (Rit) Grayczyk and Bernadette J. (Bubs) Winhoven, brothers Donald M. (DV) Vollmar, Charles J. (Chuck) Vollmar Jr., Gerald W. (Butch) Vollmar, and Edward J. (Jake) Vollmar, brothers-in-law James Finch and Bernard (Bernie) Grayczyk, and daughter Shirley Yeager. Joe is survived by his wife, Connie Vollmar, sons Jerry (Rondi) Vollmar, Terry (Amy) Vollmar, and Robert (Debra) Vollmar, daughter Trisha (Craig) Marsh, granddaughters Kaycee and Kylee Vollmar, grandsons Jeremy and Corey Yeager, Eric Vollmar, Cody Vollmar, Ty Vollmar, JD (Morghan) Pittsley, Julih Pittsley, Sam and Kade Marsh, great-granddaughter Kali Vollmar, step sons Michael Sugg and Scott (Lisa) Sugg, step granddaughters Ellie and Maggie Sugg, step grandson Bradley Sugg, sisters Theresa E. (Harley) Weide and Patricia J. (Robert) Evans, sisters-in-law Karen Vollmar, Pat Vollmar, and Zita Vollmar, brother-in-law Jim Winhoven , many nieces and nephews and many who considered Joe their calabash dad (he was a big part of a lot of lives). He enjoyed many conversations and dealings with people throughout the state of Wyoming. Most everyone knew Joe to be stubborn and bull-headed, but they loved the conversations and time spent with him. His smile, laughter, conversations, and knowledge of almost anything will be greatly missed. He was one of the smartest men most people have met, and they appreciated his gruff honesty. Everyone knew where he stood and knew he was an upfront man. The Vollmar family would like to thank the numerous acquaintances, friends, and special people who have made lasting relationships in Joe's life. In lieu of gifts and flowers, Joe requested donation be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The family would appreciate your presence to share in the many memories of Joe's life. A Celebration of Joe's Life will be May 11, 2019 with a service being from 1:00-2:00 PM and the Celebration of Joe's life being for 2:00-4:00 PM at Yellowstone Garage 355 W. Yellowstone Hwy.
