Alfred "Al" Frank Stegelman, 80, died peacefully at his home in Casper on July 1, 2012. He was born in Elk County, Kansas on July 17, 1931, to Henry Christ and Frances Emma Stegelman. He was welcomed into this world by his two older brothers, Rollin Henry and Elvin Lee. He moved to Laramie, Wyoming in 1948, where he met a girl with the most beautiful auburn hair. He and that girl, Lorian Larie Hicks, were married January 2 of 1953. From that union five children were born: William Eugene Stegelman, Mark Alan Stegelman, Larie Elaine Stegelman Hunter, Kenneth Lee Stegelman, and Daileen Marie Stegelman Cleveland. Al graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1960. During his lifetime he had many occupations. Among them were farmer, cowboy, English teacher, manager, handyman and miner. The two jobs he said that gave him the most satisfaction were working for the Union Pacific Railroad as one of the last firemen on steam locomotives, and his time serving in the United States Air Force as a cryptographer. He was in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He also took satisfaction in reminding others that life was to be truly enjoyed and lived. He taught all those around him this lesson through his love of hiking, camping, hunting, photography, snowmobiling, and motorcycle riding. This eighty year old man enjoyed the look of shock on people's faces when he would get off his motorcycle remove his helmet and reveal his silver-white hair. He was young at heart and still enjoyed the open road! He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Lorian, his two brothers, Rollin and Elvin. He is survived by his children, their spouses, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A service celebrating Alfred Frank Stegelman's life will be held on Monday, July 9, 2012, at 11:30 A.M. at the Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery, Evansville WY.
