Alfred Dill Smith Sr. (Pickle), 76, of Casper Wyoming died May 7, 2011 at his home. He was born in Severy, Kansas in 1934 to Robert and Mildred Smith. AI married the love of his life Janice (Hollis) Smith January 8, 1954. Together they had four children, Mildred Duckworth, Sandra Singh, Alfred Smith Jr., and Chester Smith. AI began working in the oilfield when he was 13 years old. In 1973 AI moved the family to Penang Malaysia where he was employed by Asamera Oil as Production Superintendant in the Indonesian oilfields. The family moved to Singapore a few years later. AI and Janice loved Asia and the lifestyle there. AI was stationed in the Indonesian jungle for much of the time, and routinely provided medical help and food for some of the local people. AI moved back to Casper, and retired from Asamera in 1985. His last employment was as truck driver for Sinclair Oil in Casper. He retired from Sinclair in 1999. Since his retirement AI enjoyed his gardening, and creating crafts with his scroll saw. He always made Christmas ornaments for all his Meals on Wheels delivery drivers. AI was especially touched by the kindness shown to him by some of the children at his church, Faith Assembly of God. The children wrote him little notes containing inspirational scripture and pictures. Another great joy for AI was talking on the phone for hours with his nephew, Richard (Joe) Mc Daniel, of Chanute, Kansas. AI is survived by his daughter, Mildred Duckworth, and his son, Alfred Smith Jr., six grandchildren: Becky, Wesley, Candice, Davi ,Cheryl, Jared, and four great grandchildren: Cindy, Brandon, Jaden, Ebin, and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws who loved him, and his old cat companion, Gracie. AI was preceeded in death by his son Chester in 1977, his wife Janice in 2006, and his daughter Sandra in 2008, and all six siblings. Graveside services will be held Monday May 10 at Highland Cemetery. Bustard's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Meals on Wheels. Special thanks to Dr. Mickelson and his staff, Natrona County home health service personnel, the WMC and the Mills emergency medical staff who came to the rescue so many times, to the wonderful folks who deliver Meals on Wheels, and to the children at the Faith Assembly of God church who brightened Dad's days.
