Alden Guy "Al" Loraas passed away Saturday, December 2nd surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 30, 1935 in Velva N.D. to Martin and Cora Loraas. His childhood was spent on the family farm with his parents and brother James. Al spent most of his life working road construction as a crusher superintendent for Peter Kiewit and Sons, and was also in Sales for Lawson Products. Fishing, hunting and woodworking were some of Al's favorite pastimes. Many friends have carvings from Al. He loved having family and friends over, the more the merrier. Al made many friends across the intermountain area as the family moved often for his work, if you were his friend you were family. For his 80th birthday, many of his friends came from several states to celebrate with him. Al is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Marilyn, children Cynthia (Bill) Thompson of Dallas, GA, Shelley (Tim) Callahan of Waleska, GA, Jack (Karel) Loraas of Casper, Charlie (Renee) Loraas of Casper, Kelley McMains of Rapid City, SD, and Kevin (Tina) Loraas of Auburn, AL. Al will be missed by his cherished 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren who loved to hang out with ‘Papa Owl'. Al was preceded in death by his parents, brother James, grandson Shawn Callahan and great-grandson Hayden Scogin. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 8 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 51 Primrose, Casper, WY. Following the service, the family invites you to join them for a meal at the church. The burial will be at 2 p.m. at Highland Cemetery, 1541 E. 4th Street. Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made to Jason's Friends Foundation (www.jasonsfriends.org), a charity dear to Al's heart.
