Bus Carlson passed away in his home on March 25 where he resided in Powder River, WY at the age of 92. He was born in Princeton Illinois on May 6, 1926 to Arthur and Maudie Carlson the second of three children. The family moved to Arminto, WY when Bus was eight years old and he attended school there through the 8th grade. He then moved to Casper, WY to attend High School where he completed one year before leaving to help support the family. He headed to the mountain country for his first full time job as a sheepherder. This would set the stage for his lifelong passion as a sheep rancher. During World War II he drove taxi picking up the service men stationed in Casper. It was during this time that he met a beautiful young taxi driver named Patricia McKelvey. The two were married in Rapid City S.D. on March 6, 1946. They returned to sheep ranching in the Arminto area as a camp tender pulling camp with a team of horses. Bus continued to work for various sheep ranchers in the area until he and Pat purchased a sheep ranch near Hiland, WY. They remained on the ranch until he retired due to his wife's health. He returned to the life he loved after the death of his wife and continued to ranch in Arminto until he sold it to his daughter and son-in-law in 2003. Not one to be still for long he continued to ride and help on the ranch until he hung up his spurs at the age of 84. Being a sheep man, Bus, always had man's best friend by his side. He loved his Border collie dogs and he had some of the best working dogs around. As he trailed his sheep up to mountain pastures he would have two or three dogs working with just a word command and hand gesture. Bus was always one to embrace new technology from horse drawn wagons to his latest Dodge Truck and 3 way radios to satellite cell phones he stayed with the times. He loved to be on the Big Horn mountains and he pulled his camp up every summer. Always one to have a cup of coffee and visit he told the best stories and shared an inheritance with his family that will forever be remembered. He is survived by one daughter, Sue (Chris) Limmer of Powder River; two grandchildren, Shane (Cherie) Limmer of WY and Tanya (Robert) Hanneman of OK; and four great grandchildren, Clay Limmer, Miles Limmer, Taylor Hanneman and Trey Hanneman. Bus was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Pat, his brother, Glen, and sister, Merry Day. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday April 1, 2019 at Restoration Church, 411 S Walsh Dr. in Casper. Interment will be at Hiland Cemetery, following the service.
