Memorial service for Adeline Sylvia (Root) Bartle, 92, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Bustard's Funeral Home in Casper. Inurnment will take place at Sunset Memorial Garden in Billings, MT at a later date. Adeline died Monday, May 19, 2014. Adeline was born in Westmore, Montana on April 24, 1922 to George Harry Root and Dora (Bolton) Root. She moved to Miles City with her family in 1928. Adeline graduated from Custer County High School in 1944. She began working at the Miles City Star Printing and Supply Company where she later met a young typesetter named Art Bartle. They eloped on October 12, 1957. The marriage lasted their lifetimes. Art and Adeline moved to Billings in the early 1960's. Throughout the years, Adeline worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for The Billings Times, Hardy's Construction Company, U.S. Office of Ecological Services and U.S. Office of Endangered Species. She retired from the federal government in 1987 and continued to work at The Billings Times until the late 1990's. They moved to Casper, WY in 2010. Adeline is survived by one daughter, Rosemary Ann Bartle and her partner, Tara Kim Fairbanks, along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Arthur "Art" Bartle, one daughter, Melissa Ann Bartle, her sister Dorothy (Root) Slusher, and three brothers Dan, Ben, and Sam Root.
